Perhaps the most important service task on any vehicle for longevity is changing the oil, if you need help changing the oil on your VLX there is a great write up here: Do-It-Yourself-Oil-Change Also not that the regular oil change interval designed by Honda Engineers is 8000 miles, this is not a type-o, some riders still choose to change their oil every 3000 miles others may stick to the factory maintenance schedule the choice is yours.
